Bhupinder Singh Hooda hints at key post for Jhajjar nominee Geeta Bhukkal
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda gave a hint at a key post for four-time MLA and Congress nominee for Jhajjar Geeta Bhukkal in the state government if the Congress comes to power.
During a poll rally in Matanhel village here on Saturday, Hooda said Jhajjar had its share in the previous Congress government as Bhukkal served as the Education Minister in the state Cabinet during that time.
“Bhukkal performed her duty very well as the Education Minister. This time as well, Jhajjar would have its share in the state government on coming to power if Bhukkal wins the Assembly poll. Every vote in favour of Bhukkal will go to my account. Ensure the victory of Bhukkal as per my wish and I will form the Congress government in the state to fulfill your wishes,” said Hooda.
As far as Bhukkal’s electoral journey is concerned, she has so far won four Assembly elections in a row as the Congress candidate. Belonging to Matanhel village, she romped home for the first time from the Kalayat Assembly segment (Kaithal) in 2005. Thereafter, she was shifted to her home Jhajjar (Reserve), where she won her second election in 2009 and served as the Education Minister in the Cabinet under Hooda.
Bhukkal, considered a loyalist of Hooda, also registered victory in 2014 and 2019 when the BJP formed the government in the state. She is known for her oratory skills and flagging public issues in the Vidhan Sabha. Last year, Bhukkal got engaged in a verbal duel with then Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala in the Vidhan Sabha over sexual harassment of schoolgirls. Her aggressive statement against Dushyant in the episode had attracted media’s attention at the national level. She also worked as the chairperson of the Congress Manifesto Committee constituted for the Assembly poll.
