Bihar couple caught with kidnapped child in Sirsa
A three-year-old boy, the son of migrant labourers from Punjab, was rescued after being kidnapped and sold to a couple from Bihar. The couple was arrested in Sirsa while travelling in a bus with the child.
Acting on a tip-off, Punjab Police informed the Sirsa CIA, who intercepted the bus and detained the suspects. The child and the arrested couple were later handed over to Punjab Police, which are leading the probe.
The incident occurred on Thursday in Garhi Taharkhana village under Machhiwara police station in Punjab’s Khanna area. The boy was playing outside his house when he was allegedly abducted by a neighbouring migrant labourer, who then sold him to the Bihar-based couple for money.
Sirsa DSP Adarshdeep Singh said, “The arrested couple also intended to resell the child.”
Police said the parents of the child, the abductor, and the buyers are all migrant workers. The boy was found safe but frightened when recovered.
The couple is now being taken to Punjab for further interrogation. Investigators are trying to ascertain the amount exchanged in the deal, the intended buyer, and whether the accused have past criminal records or links to a larger trafficking network.
