Bishnoi sabha demands arrest of accused in blackbuck poaching case
The All India Jeev Raksha Bishnoi Sabha, Haryana, has condemned the recent poaching of the state’s official wildlife symbol, the blackbuck, at Jandwala Bishnoiyan village on December 23.
The sabha organised a condolence meeting and protest demonstration at Guru Jambheshwar Temple in Abubasar village of Sirsa district today. It expressed outrage over the killing of innocent animals, which has caused widespread anger among wildlife lovers and conservationists.
During the meeting, the sabha decided to intensify its demands for stricter action against poachers. It also resolved to organise peaceful protests at residences of police officials and politicians if appropriate steps were not taken to curb these incidents and to arrest the culprits.
According to the sabha, the poaching of blackbucks has been facilitated by smuggling operations, which have further endangered the state’s wildlife. It pointed out that the poachers had not only targeted blackbucks but also other wildlife species. It highlighted the need for urgent intervention by the state government and law enforcement agencies to prevent such crimes and safeguard the environment.
Advocate Mukesh Bishnoi, president of the sabha, demanded strict action against those responsible for the heinous act. He said the issue required immediate and serious attention, as it reflected a failure to protect the ecological heritage of the state. The lack of action against illegal activities had emboldened poachers, and there was an urgent need for accountability and reform.
The Bishnoi community has a long-standing tradition of protecting nature and wildlife, rooted in its core values.
A resolution was adopted regarding holding similar protest gatherings in various villages to spread awareness and demand action. The sabha said if the police and administration failed to take appropriate measures, protests would be held outside the homes of local politicians and officials.
The SHO of Dabwali Sadar police said they were investigating the case and no arrest had been made so far.
