Bishnois protests govt decision to allow killing of nilgai
The Bishnoi community has opposed the government's decision to allow the killing of male nilgais. Protests were held at Dabwali (Sirsa), Fatehabad and Hisar, where a large number of community members gathered to voice their anger.
The protest in Hisar started from the Bishnoi temple and marched to the Mini Secretariat, while at Dabwali and Fatehabad, a memorandum was submitted to the SDM's office.
The Bishnoi community, known for “jeev daya palani” (animal protection) principle, believes that all creatures have the right to live.
Inderjeet Bishnoi from Dabwali and state president of the Jeev Raksha Sabha warned that protests would continue until the decision was reversed.
Bishnoi said earlier, the community had met the Chief Wildlife Officer and the Forest Minister, suggesting alternatives like relocating nilgais to other states, sterilisation, or compensating affected farmers.
He said the community was committed to protecting wildlife and believed that the government's move disrespected their religious sentiments.
In Fatehabad, the Bishnoi delegation comprised district president Radheshyam and BJP leader Anil Sihag, among others, and called for a revision of the Wildlife Protection Act to prevent the killing of nilgais.
The community also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner in Hisar, demanding the immediate revocation of the decision.
