BJP banks on development, Cong highlights on property ID issue
Karnal mayoral elections will witness a direct battle between the BJP and the Congress. The BJP is focusing on its development agenda and triple-engine government, highlighting infrastructure projects, urban modernisation and governance reforms, while the Congress counters this narrative by alleging rampant corruption and neglect of essential public services during the BJP’s tenure. The Congress is also raising the issue of harassment faced by the residents due to property IDs.
BJP mayoral candidate Renu Bala Gupta, who is seeking a third consecutive term as Mayor, is campaigning on the promise of continuity and efficiency. She has been urging voters to support her for a “progressive city”, emphasising the work done under the Smart City Mission and the triple-engine government — BJP-led administration at the municipal, state and central levels.
“The triple-engine government has undertaken massive development in Karnal. Be it the beautification of the city with lush green parks, entry gates, smart classrooms in government schools, road infrastructure and numerous projects completed in the last 10 years,” said Gupta. She assured voters that more projects were in the pipeline.
“I have served the city for 10 years. I am connected with the people of my city. People of Karnal had elected the BJP in Centre, state and now in the city, people want to elect BJP in civic bodies too. I assure the people of my city that the pace of development works will continue,” she added. “Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, CM Nayab Singh Saini, we will bring more development projects for the city,” Gupta assured.
On the other hand, Congress candidate Manoj Wadhwa has mounted a sharp attack on the BJP, accusing it of rampant corruption and mismanagement. He claimed that despite BJP’s tall promises, residents of Karnal have faced hurdles, particularly in issues related to property IDs and no-dues certificates.
“This government has kept people stuck in portals, making them run from pillar to post for even the smallest tasks. If elected as Mayor, I will introduce a single-window system to streamline public services,” Wadhwa stated.
He also criticised the BJP for the deteriorating road infrastructure and Karnal’s poor performance in the Swachh Survekshan rankings. Highlighting his past tenure as Deputy Mayor, Wadhwa pointed to his role in initiating projects like open-air gyms and wi-fi zones.
“I have always raised issues related to roads, sewerage and storm-water management. If elected, I will continue to be the voice of the people in the general house and ensure that development remains a priority,” he added.
