BJP candidate Anoop Dhanak from Uklana (reserved) is facing stiff protest and brickbats from the villagers during the campaign in the Assembly constituency. Dhanak, who was a JJP MLA in the last Assembly, served as the Minister of State in the Manohar Lal Khattar led BJP-JJP government for nearly four and a half years and recently joined the BJP.
Dhanak switched from the JJP to the BJP and was also nominated as a candidate by the BJP. As he embarked on the campaign trail, he started facing complaints by a number of aggrieved persons who blamed him on his face for neglecting them and ignoring their applications during his tenure as the minister.
Dhanak faced protests in Chhan, Kandul, Khairi, Kinala and Shyamshukh villages of the Assembly segments. An elderly man who entered in an argument with the BJP candidate put a bet with him on his winning or losing the election. “It’s a bet; you are going to lose this election. I will pay you Rs 1,000 if you win but you will have to give me just Rs 100 if you lose,” said the person while clapping with the former minister.
However, Dhanak took the brickbats to his strides and hardly retorted with the protesters. However, he claimed during his public meetings that he had done a lot of work during his tenure as the minister. Dhanak had been the INLD MLA from 2014 to 2019 and later was fielded by the JJP after a split in the INLD. He managed to win in 2019 and became the minister. He is facing Congress’ Naresh Selwal, a former MLA, among others in this election.
