The ruling BJP has decided to retain its faith in two sitting MLAs and fielded a former MLA across three Assembly seats in Kaithal district for the upcoming Assembly elections. However, the party has kept the Pundri Assembly seat ticket on hold, which is likely to be announced in the next few days.

While the party has fielded sitting MLA Leela Ram, a prominent Gurjar leader, from the Kaithal seat, former minister and sitting MLA Kamlesh Dhanda has been given the ticket from Kalayat. The BJP has also fielded former MLA Kulwant Ram Bazigar from the Guhla Assembly segment.

The Kaithal district comprises four Assembly constituencies — Kaithal, Kalayat, Guhla and Pundri. At present, two of these seats, Kaithal and Kalayat, are held by BJP MLAs Leela Ram and Kamlesh Dhanda, respectively. Pundri is represented by Independent MLA Randhir Gollen, while the Guhla seat is held by JJP MLA Ishwar Singh, who recently resigned from the primary membership of the party.

The BJP has reposed faith in Leela Ram from Kaithal, where he won in 2019 by a narrow margin of 1,246 votes, defeating Congress candidate Randeep Surjewala.

Kamlesh Dhanda has also been fielded from Kalayat again. In 2019, Dhanda won the seat with a margin of 8,974 votes against Congress candidate Jai Parkash.

In Guhla, the party has fielded Kulwant Ram Bazigar, who won the seat in 2014 on a BJP ticket by a margin of 2,440 votes. However, in 2019, the BJP dropped Bazigar in favour of Para Ram. This time, the party has reverted to its former choice. In 2019, JJP candidate won the seat with a margin of 4,574 votes, defeating Para Ram. Ishwar Singh got 36,518 votes, while Congress candidate Dilu Ram got 31,944 votes.
