BJP finalises panel for civic polls, awaits high command's approval

The BJP’s core group met in Delhi today to finalise candidates for the upcoming Haryana municipal elections. The shortlisted names for mayors and chairpersons were submitted to the party high command for approval.

Sources revealed that deliberations took place on the day nominations opened for the March 2 polls. The selection process prioritised an applicant’s commitment to the party, stature and neutrality, along with the number of members they enrolled during the recent membership drive. The committee ensured that candidates did not belong to any particular faction.

The meeting, which continued till late evening, was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, state BJP incharge Satish Punia, state party chief Mohan Lal Badoli, Union Minister Rao Indrajit Singh and other senior leaders.

Expressing confidence in BJP’s prospects, Badoli stated, “The people of Haryana have decided to form a ‘triple-engine’ government by giving the saffron party a majority in the civic bodies as well.”

He confirmed that after thorough discussions, the final list of candidates had been sent to the central leadership and would be announced soon. The deadline for filing nominations is February 17.

Reiterating BJP’s election preparedness, Badoli said, “BJP is always in election mode, whether the election is small or big. Our party and workers are ready to contest and win the civic polls in the state.”

The much-awaited elections for eight municipal corporations, four municipal councils and 21 municipal committees in Haryana will take place on March 2, with results set to be declared on March 12.
