Following its decisive victory in the recent Assembly elections, the BJP has shifted its focus to strengthening its organisational structure ahead of the upcoming civic body elections in Haryana. The party has launched its organisational election process to appoint heads of booths, mandals and districts, alongside a robust membership drive.
“Under the leadership of state president Mohan Lal Badoli, the party has initiated elections for presidents at booths, mandals and districts. District conveners have been appointed to oversee the process across all 22 districts,” said Advocate Vedpal, BJP state vice-president and convener of the membership drive.
Vedpal added that the party has planned to elect heads for 30,628 proposed booths, 382 mandals and 22 districts within a couple of weeks. “So far, 41 lakh members have been enrolled in the ongoing membership drive, which is progressing successfully. Our target is 50 lakh members, and we are confident of achieving it soon,” he said.
He highlighted the growth of the BJP’s membership over recent years: 27 lakh members were enrolled in 2016, 33 lakh in 2019, and now the party is aiming higher despite interruptions due to the Covid in 2022. “People are voluntarily joining the BJP through the missed call option,” Vedpal said.
Former Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, in a meeting with party workers in Karnal, stressed the importance of grassroots participation in organisational elections. “It is mandatory for workers to engage actively to be considered for any position within the party,” Gupta said.
He also emphasised the dual focus on adding primary members and electing active members, which is crucial for holding leadership roles. Gupta expressed optimism that the organisational elections, set to conclude by January, would further strengthen the party ahead of the civic polls.
Brij Gupta, Karnal district working president, affirmed the party’s commitment to a democratic and consultative election process. “All office-bearers are elected through proper consultation with party workers. This process not only engages grassroots workers but also ensures we are well-prepared for civic body elections,” he said.
Brij Gupta expressed confidence in the BJP’s readiness for the civic body elections across Haryana. “We are well-prepared and aim to win all mayoral, chairperson and councillor seats,” he said.
The BJP believes that its grassroots engagement and strengthened organisational framework will pave the way for success in the upcoming polls.
