Senior BJP leader Manish Grover is in the dock over an alleged obscene gesture made towards protesting farmers, including women, from his car after a party meeting in Hisar on Saturday.

Several farmers assembled around noon here today and marched towards Grover’s house. They tried to break the police barricades put up near the BJP leader’s house. As the police tried to stop them, a minor clash ensued.

Subsequently, the farmers started a dharna near Grover’s house, seeking his apology.

“The dharna will continue till Grover tenders an apology,” said Inderjit Singh, vice-president, Haryana chapter of the All-India Kisan Sabha.

On Saturday, BJP’s Hansi MLA Vinod Bhayana and Grover took part in a party event at the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology in Hisar.

The farmers, including women, agitating against the Centre’s three farm laws, were holding a protest outside the university gates against the BJP leaders.

The farmer leaders alleged that a person seated in the SUV, in which Bhayana and Grover were travelling, made obscene gestures towards the women protesters.

In a video message, former minister Grover said: “I am a worker of the party that holds women in very high regard. I have sisters, daughters and a mother at home. I cannot even think of (doing) such a thing as is being alleged. Still, if somebody feels that some such gesture was made, I regret it.”

The farmers, however, remained adamant on the BJP leader visting the protest site and tendering an apology.
