BJP leader Gobind faces backlash from mob during Sirsa village visit
Sirsa, August 26
BJP leader Gobind Kanda, who is also the brother of Sirsa MLA Gopal Kanda, faced significant backlash from villagers during his visit to Narayan Khera village on Saturday. The visit, intended to garner support for the upcoming elections, quickly turned contentious.
Kanda had arrived in the village at around 7 pm, but his attempt to conduct an outreach was thwarted by a large group of angry villagers. The locals, frustrated with ongoing issues such as crop destruction, rising drug-related deaths and severe water shortages, confronted Kanda and expressed their discontent with the lack of government intervention in these critical matters.
The vexed villagers asked him why politicians only visited in villages during elections. They also accused them of showing no genuine interest in addressing their problems. Despite Kanda’s efforts to respond to their concerns and explain his position, the crowd remained hostile and continued to protest.
The situation intensified when villagers surrounded Kanda, chanting slogans and making it clear that they were not willing to listen to him. Even the police and security personnel’s efforts could not pacify the mob. With the situation becoming increasingly tense, Kanda was forced to leave the village without being able to complete the outreach programme.
Kanda has faced challenges in his political career. He had contested the 2014 and 2019 elections but lost both times. He then joined the BJP in 2021 and contested the byelections for the Ellenabad constituency, but was defeated once again. His political journey has been marked by repeated setbacks.
