The BJP today roped in its big guns, including several former ministers, for the March 2 municipal poll.

In a bid to outsmart the Congress, the BJP took a lead and named poll incharges for the eight municipal corporations (MCs). The incharges will prepare overall strategy for the elections in consultations with grassroots party workers and state core committee, sources said.

“The BJP has been in election mode after its historic win in the October 5 Assembly poll while the Congress is yet to decide whether to fight the MC poll on its party symbol. We are on the way to sweep the MC poll to realise the dream of triple-engine government in Haryana,” BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli claimed.

While former minister Manish Grover will be incharge for the Faridabad municipal corporation poll, Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala will hold the fort in Gurugram. Ballabhgarh MLA and former minister Moolchand Sharma will look after the preparations in the first-ever elections to the MC in Manesar.

For the crucial Hisar poll, former minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar will be incharge while ex-minister Kamal Gupta will be incharge of the Karnal MC elections. Another former minister, Banwari Lal, will take charge of the Panipat MC poll. Senior leader Vedpal will take the reins of the Rohtak MC elections. Former MP Sanjay Bhatia will be overall in charge of the Yamunanagar MC poll.

For the crucial bypoll to the election of Mayors in Sonepat and Ambala, senior leaders Jawahar Saini and former MP Sunita Duggal have been deputed by the party.

The nomination process for the eight MCs, four municipal councils and 21 municipal committees will be held from February 11 to 17.
