BJP nominates NCW ex-chief Rekha Sharma to Rajya Sabha from Haryana
The ruling BJP on Monday nominated former chairperson of the National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana.
The seat was vacated after the recent election of Krishan Lal Panwar of the BJP to Israna assembly segment in Panipat in the recently held state polls.
Panwar is now Panchayati Raj Minister in the Nayab Singh Saini government in the state.
Rekha Sharma had in August this year tendered her resignation from the NCW after a long nine-year stint. BJP's pick has surprised everyone in Haryana political circles, which were abuzz with talks that the party may choose a Scheduled Caste leader to replace Panwar, also a Dalit in Rajya Sabha.
