BJP talks of triple-engine govt; Cong seeks vote for change
A keen contest is being witnessed in the Rohtak municipal elections, with the candidates of the ruling as well as Opposition parties making all-out efforts to woo voters.
Though the electoral battle is being fought between the BJP and the Congress, Independent candidates are also making their presence felt in several wards.
during their poll campaign in Rohtak.
The BJP leaders are trying hard to convince the residents that only a 'triple-engine' government (BJP regime at the Centre, in the state and at the local Municipal Corporation) can ensure prompt and inclusive progress of the city.
"I have developed my ward during my previous tenure and will continue with the same pace of progress on being voted to power for this term as well. We, in the BJP are confident of another emphatic victory. The Congress has been reduced to a naught in almost all parts of the country and has no future in Haryana," says Kanchan Khurana, the BJP nominee from Ward14 in the Rohtak Municipal Corporation.
She said smooth and fast progress would be ensured if the BJP, which was the ruling party at the Centre as well as in Haryana, is voted to power at the municipal corporation as well.
Meanwhile, the Congress candidate from the same ward, Aarti Juneja, alleged that the BJP regime had failed to provide even the basic amenities despite being in power at the Centre, in the state as well as the local Municipal Corporation.
"The residents of the ward are not even getting clean water to drink. The condition of the roads and sewerage is also deplorable. The outgoing municipal councillor and even the Mayor, both of whom are from the BJP, used to express their helplessness in getting adequate funds sanctioned and development works done," she pointed out.
Aarti, who is the daughter of former Haryana Home Minister Subhash Batra, asserted that she would ensure the provision of all civic amenities and holistic development of the ward if voted to power.
The Congress and BJP mayoral nominees as well as tother candidates for the posts of municipal councillor are also making efforts to convince the residents with their respective points.
However, the voters have kept their cards close to their chest, keeping all parties and candidates on tenterhooks, at least as of now.
