BJP to fight municipal corporation, council poll on party symbol
Gearing up for the upcoming municipal poll in Haryana, the BJP top brass today formally decided to contest the municipal corporation and municipal council poll on the party symbol. However, the final call on fighting the municipal committee election on party symbol would be taken in due course.
The core committee of the saffron party, at its meeting in Panchkula, decided to pitch development as the major poll issue in the MC poll, besides deciding to bring separate 'sankalp patra' (election manifesto) for each municipality.
“The BJP is aiming at the formation of triple-engine government on the strength of the development works undertaken by the state and the Central governments. The BJP is already in the election mode after its stupendous victory in the Assembly poll,” Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said.
Sources said a committee would tour various civic bodies, where elections are scheduled. After preparing a panel of prospective candidates, the committee would submit lists to the core committee, which would take a final call on the names of candidates on February 9, the sources said.
Party president Mohan Lal Badoli said various proposals, including election of the municipal committees, on party symbol, were deliberated upon.
Besides Saini and Badoli, prominent among those who attended the meeting included Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar, national secretary Om Prakash Dhankar and Rajya Sabha member Subhash Barala.
