In a strategic political move, the BJP has decided to make Panipat its organisational hub in Haryana. The decision comes in the backdrop of the party's consistent electoral performance in the district over the past three Assembly elections and two municipal polls.

Strong network

The party has showcased its strength in all previous elections either in Assembly or MC elections. It was possible with a strong network and team at the grassroots.

“Though Panipat has been a stronghold of the BJP even earlier, the party has now again decided to make it a hub,” said Dushyant Bhatt, BJP’s district president.

BJP’s state president Mohal Lal Badoli, during a meeting with party office-bearers in Panipat on Wednesday, confirmed the move and urged workers to intensify grassroots-level efforts. “Panipat would be made BJP’s hub,” he said, adding that booth-level monitoring should be done more minutely to further strengthen the party structure.

The BJP has performed strongly in Panipat over the last decade. In the 2014 Assembly elections, the party won Panipat City, Panipat Rural and Israna. In 2019, it retained Panipat City and Panipat Rural with significant margins. The party consolidated its dominance in the 2024 Assembly polls by sweeping all four Assembly segments — Panipat City, Panipat Rural, Israna and Samalkha.

The winning streak extended to the recent municipal elections, where BJP’s Komal Saini won with a record 1,23,170 votes, and the party captured 23 of 26 municipal wards. The Congress failed to win even a single ward.

Dushyant Bhatt credited the consistent success to BJP’s robust grassroots organisation. “The party has showcased its strength in every election due to a strong network and a dedicated team,” he said.

Bhatt outlined the organisational structure: Panipat has 912 booths, each assigned a booth pramukh. Every booth’s voter list has 10 pages, with a Panna Pramukh for each page — amounting to over 10,000 Panna Pramukhs in direct contact with voters. Additionally, there are 201 Shakti Kendra Pramukhs, 19 mandal incharges, and a district working committee that coordinates all activities.

Bhatt emphasised that this micro-level management model is central to BJP’s vision of turning Panipat into a model district.
