Ambala, August 28

The BJP is trying to wrest the Naraingarh Assembly seat in Ambala district from the Congress after poor performances in the previous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Naraingarh is the home turf of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who held a roadshow in the constituency today to boost the morale of party workers.

Naraingarh has been the citadel of the Congress, which has won the seat six times since 1967. At present, Congress MLA Shalley Chaudhary represents the seat. In the past, the INLD, BSP and the Haryana Vikas Party and even Independent candidates had represented the segment. The BJP had held the seat only once in 2014 when Nayab Saini won it.

However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Saini was shifted to Kurukshetra and he emerged victorious. In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP had fielded the then Zila Parishad Chairman and Nayab Saini’s close aide Surinder Rana from Naraingarh but he could not retain the seat.

The party’s poor show continued in the election to the Naraingarh Municipal Committee and the Zila Parishad and even in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Ambala BJP in-charge Dharamveer Mirzapur said, “The party has been getting a tremendous response and the road show of Chief Minister Nayab Saini in Naraingarh infused a new energy into the party workers. Naraingarh is a rural seat but ]Nayab Saini had won it for the BJP in 2014. We are confident that the party will wrest it from the Congress in the coming Assembly elections.”

“The BJP government has worked with transparency, given jobs on merit and also gave better prices to farmers for their produce. The government has decided to procure all crops on the MSP. The pro-public decisions taken by the government will play an important role in the elections. We are confident that the party will win the Naraingarh seat along with three other Assembly constituencies of Ambala,” he added.
