BJP’s Gupta holds over 20 ‘nukkar’ meetings daily, Cong’s Wadhwa focuses on door to door campaign
With polling day drawing closer, the city has turned into a political battleground, witnessing relentless campaigning, nukkar meetings, and door-to-door outreach. Both candidates for the mayoral seat, Renu Bala Gupta of the BJP and Manoj Wadhwa of the Congress, are pulling out all stops to connect with voters.
Gupta attends nearly 20 programmes daily, receiving warm welcome from the people of all sections of society. Women are extending wholehearted support greeting her with garlands. She is backed by Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, who is attending an equal number of programmes and her husband, Brij Gupta, the officiating district BJP president, who is also holding over 10 meetings a day.
At around 2 pm on Monday, Gupta reached Sector14 to hold ‘nukkar’ meeting, where all sections of society welcomed her. Roads echoed with cheers as people from all walks of life showered her with flowers. People could be seen pledging support for her campaign.
In her speech, she focused on the ‘triple-engine’ government and development agenda. She and MLA Anand are seeking votes on the development works they have done.
“I am getting support from all sections of society. The BJP will win the seat with a massive margin. People want a triple-engine government to continue the pace of development,” said Gupta.
Similarly, Anand said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, state president Mohan Lal Badoli and other senior leaders, the BJP will win all mayoral seats in the state. I am seeking votes for the works I have done after being elected as the MLA of Karnal city. Renu Bala Gupta will win the seat with a massive margin.”
Congress’s candidate Manoj Wadhwa, who had served as Deputy Mayor, is also making an aggressive push, highlighting issues like ‘corruption’ in the MC, unresolved civic problems, waterlogging and flaws in property IDs to strike a chord with voters. His campaign is focusing on door-to-door interactions to mobilise public sentiment against the ruling party.
Wadhwa, who is backed by former MLAs,Sumita Singh, Shamsher Singh Gogi, Rakesh Kamboj, state youth president Divyanshu Budhiraja, senior leaders Parag Gaba, Pankaj Gaba, Dr. Sunil Panwar, Nischey Sohi, and others, said, “People of Karnal are fed up with the BJP government and they would elect the Congress with huge margin. I assure the overall development of the city.” People also welcome him with garlands and flowers.
