Deepak, who had gone to Sunderpur village to seek votes, was asked by villagers to enlist the works accomplished by the BJP government in the constituency.

The BJP candidate first tried to convince the villagers, but eventually said he had not come to the village for any argument.

The villagers expressed resentment over the use of police force against the farmers, wrestlers and sarpanches under the BJP rule.

They also questioned the ruling party’s candidate why the BJP government had failed to carry out the progress works which were being promised now.

“What stopped the government from giving the MSP on crops earlier? Why were cooking gas cylinders not sold for Rs 500 each in the past 10 years?” the agitated villagers asked the BJP candidate.

The BJP is locked in a multi-cornered contest in the Meham constituency.

Sitting MLA Balraj Kundu, Congress candidate Balram Dangi, BJP rebel Radha Ahlawat, AAP nominee Vikas Nehra and former INLD MLA Bali Pehalwan are also in the fray for the Meham seat.

Other BJP candidates are also facing hostility and opposition from the voters, especially in the rural areas.
