BJP’s Suman wins mayoral poll in Yamunanagar-Jagadhri

BJP candidate Suman Behmani defeated Congress candidate Kirna Devi by a margin of 73,319 votes for the post of Mayor from the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation (MCYJ). Suman got 1,26,749 votes, while Kirna Devi polled 53,430 votes.

Two other candidates - Madhu and Suman Lata - who also contested elections for the post of Mayor, bagged only 5,671 and 1,839 votes, respectively.

Out of the total 22 wards, BJP candidates were elected for the posts of councillor from 21 wards. Sunaina Sharma, an Independent candidate, was elected as the councillor from Ward No 14.

As per information, Reena Rastogi from Ward No. 1, Arun Kumar from Ward No. 2, Jayant Swami from Ward No. 3, Ruchi Kamboj from Ward No. 4, Bhanu Pratap from Ward No. 5, Ankit Kumar from Ward No. 6, Priyank Kumar Sharma from Ward No. 7, Vibhor Pahuja from Ward No. 8, Bhawna Bittu from Ward No. 9 (unopposed), Kiran Yadav from Ward No. 10 and Santosh from Ward No. 11 were elected as councillors.

Similarly, Tilak Raj from Ward No. 12, Shyam Lal from Ward No. 13, Manu Krishan Singla from Ward No. 15, Sandeep Dhiman from Ward No. 16, Dixit from Ward No. 17, Ujjawal from Ward No. 18, Harjeet Anand from Ward No. 19, Vikram Singh from Ward No. 20, Manjeet Kaur from Ward No. 21 and Ruchi Sharma from Ward No. 22 of the MCYJ were elected as councillors.

Suman Behmani (55), who holds MPhil, MEd, BEd, MA degrees, she is among the most qualified candidates of the party in Haryana. Last year, she took VRS from the post of district education officer (DEO) with the Education Department and joined the BJP. Her husband Satpal Behmani also retired from the Health Department.

After the declaration of results for the post of Mayor and councillors, celebrations erupted at many places in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

Former Haryana Cabinet Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Mayor Suman Behmani, district president of the BJP Rajesh Sapra and other party leaders and workers danced to drum beats in Jagadhri.

Later, Suman Behmani and other BJP leaders took out a victory procession in twin cities Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

Giving credit of her victory to the policies of the BJP, Behmani said all-round development of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri and other areas falling under the MCYJ would be her priority.
