The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait group) handed over a memorandum to CM Nayab Singh Saini through DC Parth Gupta, demanding an underpass on the Shamli-Ambala highway near Potli village in the district.
In the absence of the DC, the memorandum was given to SP Kamaldeep Goyal by state president of the union, Ratan Mann, and district president Subhash Gurjar in the presence of a large number of farmers at the district secretariat today.
Gurjar said the farmers of Potli village and BKU office-bearers held a meeting at the district office of the BKU in Dhaurang village. Later, they reached the district secretariat and handed over the memorandum to the SP.
He further said the farmers had been holding a dharna on the Shamli highway near Potli village since September 13, but their demand had not been fulfilled.
Gurjar said a road about 16-ft wide existed in the revenue record since 1952, but it had been closed by the highway authorities as there was no crossing on the highway.
