Kurukshetra, February 23
Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh said the Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) should work together and form a joint committee for the agitation.
After holding the meeting of the core group of his union in Kurukshetra, Gurnam Singh said, “The SKM and SKM (non-political have been working separately and it has been sending a negative message among the farmers. We discussed the complete situation and we are of the view that SKM and SKM (non-political) should work together. Due to the current situation, the government is also not showing any interest in accepting the demands. It has been decided that we will request both groups to come on one platform.”
The Charuni faction has formed an 11-member committee to hold discussions with the leaders of the SKM and SKM (non-political), and request them to form a joint committee and run the agitation jointly.
“We are ready to accept their decisions and calls. We are hopeful that they will accept our request. We will make efforts to bring the other unions, too, on the same platform”, Gurnam said.
Condemning the lathi charge at Kheri Chopta in Hisar, the union chief further said that the government had been repeatedly using force against the farmers, which was not acceptable. It had been trying to provoke the farmers and make the situation violent. The government should change its attitude, else the union would be forced to take strict action.
