International boxer Krishan Sharma has pledged to donate his body and all organs. He filled up a form in this regard at the Rohtak-PGIMS on Thursday.
Sharma, a resident of Sorkhi village, has participated in boxing events at national and international levels and received an award from the President.
"My mother wanted to donate her body and organs, but that could not be done as she died during the Covid-19 pandemic. I have now pledged to donate my body and organs to fulfill her wish," said Sharma.
The boxer asserted that he would now inspire other sportspersons to donate their bodies and organs for the benefit of the patients struggling for their lives.
"Lakhs of people die due to lack of organ donors in our country. Many precious lives can be saved if more and more people come forward and donate their organs," he observed.
The PGIMS authorities have appreciated the decision taken by Sharma.
"It is a great initiative which underlines the importance of organ donation and would also inspire people to donate their organs for a noble cause," said Rohtak PGIMS Director Dr SK Singhal.
He thanked the international boxer who had come to the Director's office to sign the papers for organ and body donation.
The Director said the decision of the boxer reflects his sense of social responsibility.
"Organ donation is a noble initiative in which a person can save or change the lives of eight persons," he pointed out.
The Director maintained that any person, NGO or voluntary social organisation willing to donate organs can contact the nodal officer, Dr Sukhbir Singh, at Room Number 17 of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Office located within the Medical Superintendent's office.
