Amid a growing war of words among Brahmin leaders over claims related to land allotted to the Gaur Brahmin Sabha at Pahrawar in Rohtak, Congress leader and former Speaker Kuldeep Sharma has launched an attack, accusing them of playing with Brahmin sentiments for political gain. He claimed that the land was allotted by the previous Congress government.
Sharma credited Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma for clearing government dues on the land, following which the then CM, Manohar Lal Khattar, ordered its restoration. “Now, the BJP Brahmin leaders, who did nothing at that time, are in a race to appear as saviours of the community. They are political turncoats, who have changed more parties than clothes,” he said.
Without naming anyone, he said BJP leaders were engaged in an unseemly contest to claim credit for the land, but their language was unparliamentary inside and outside the Assembly. “The language used by Brahmin leaders, even inside the Assembly, is unparliamentary. They must apologise for the derogatory remarks made in public.”
He also mentioned the proposed state-level Parshuram Jayanti programme to be held on May 30 in Rohtak, which will be chaired by CM Nayab Singh Saini. A similar state-level programme was organised in Panchkula last month, which was also chaired by the CM. “I welcome the repeated celebration of Parshuram Jayanti,” he said, “but using it as a political battleground is shameful. The land at Pahrawar was allotted to the Gaur Brahmin Sabha during the Congress regime.”
Sharma urged Saini to make a financial contribution of at least Rs 5 crore towards development on Pahrawar land. “The CM should show his commitment by supporting the cause financially. This is a political game being played around him. He may realise the real motive of these people only after some time. This is not just about land or jayanti, it is about power games.”
He also criticised Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chander Jangra for his remarks on women, who lost their husbands or family members in Pahalgam attack, demanding action and calling for disqualification of people who “lack basic understanding of parliamentary decency.”
Acknowledging the BJP's organisational discipline, he said, “The Congress lacked a ground-level organisation, which is why we are not in power today, despite public sentiment for change.”
