He said the department would bear all medical expenses of the injured ASI. “The police personnel will be given Rs 10 lakh as a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh has already been announced by the Faridabad Commissioner of Police,” said the spokesperson.

Giving details, he said one of the undertrials, identified as Sandeep alias Kala of Sonepat district, managed to flee during the encounter. He said Dhan Singh, the other undertrial, was nabbed along with two gangsters, identified as Naresh Sethi and Kapil Dagar.

According to the police, at least six gangsters who had come in three vehicles intercepted the police vehicle taking the undertrials from Faridabad to Gurugram around 3:20 pm on Saturday. The ASI was injured when the gangsters opened fire.

With police teams chasing the gangsters and putting up barricades, one of the vehicles with two gangsters and one undertrial got stuck. The accused tried to dodge the police team by leaving their vehicle and snatching an SUV near Pali village, but could not escape.

The owner of the SUV, identified as Ajit, got injured as the gangsters shot at him. A huge cache of weapons, including seven pistols, a gun and 236 live cartridges, were recovered from them.
