In Lowa Khurd village, potholes have developed on the outer road and the drains are overflowing due to inadequate system. This is the state of affairs of the village, which has given three MLAs —Surajmal Joon, his son Rajendra Joon and Naresh Kaushik — to Bahadurgarh constituency, located on the border of Delhi and Haryana.

The villagers are being elected as Bahadurgarh MLA for the past four elections, but the chronic problem of waterlogging is still lying unaddressed.

This time too, three natives — Rajendra Joon (outgoing MLA), Rajesh Joon and Dinesh Kaushik — of Lowa Khurd, located on the Jhajjar-Bahadurgarh road, are in the battle for Assembly polls from Bahadurgarh.

“The outer road of the village has been in a poor state for the last three years. Deep potholes developed on the road are becoming a major cause of mishaps, and also causing damage to vehicles. We have urged sitting and former MLAs to get it repaired several times but to no avail,” said Ajay Joon, a villager.

Ravi, another villager, said they had been grappling with waterlogging for a long time. “Mild rain results in accumulation of water on streets and the outer road of the village due to inadequate drainage system. In the name of water removal, there is a small pond on the outskirts of the village but it is overflowing,” he added.

Sandeep, another villager, said dirty water accumulates in the streets due to overflowing drains outside houses. “Stagnant water not only emanates foul smell but also invites vector-borne disease. The sitting and former MLAs do not reside in the village but come to seek votes at the time of elections,” he added.

Sarpanch Vinod Joon said he had flagged the issues of the potholed road and waterlogging before the authorities but no one paid any heed. “I also suggested laying of stormwater pipes to connect the village with a drain passing 1km from here so as to ensure immediate removal of rainwater from the village but no one took action. The villagers are so troubled by the issue that they started mulling over boycotting the polls, but it is not a solution to the problem,” he said.

Lowa Khurd resident Suraj Mal Joon served as Bahadurgarh MLA from 1991-1996. Thereafter, his son Rajendra Joon was elected MLA in 2005, 2009 and 2019 Assembly polls while Naresh Kaushik became Bahadurgarh MLA in 2014.
