Work begins on state’s 1st science centre

Ambala: Work has finally begun on the state’s first science centre in Ambala, with Science and Technology Minister Anil Vij performing ‘bhoomi poojan’ on Thursday evening. Christened Aryabhatta Vigyan Kendra, the project will come up over five acres adjacent to the upcoming War Memorial. The project will cost Rs 40 crore. The centre will have a science gallery, 270-degree immersive projection hall and 3D auditorium. Galleries and exhibits will be installed by the National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata. TNS

Woman’s body found in Rohtak school

Rohtak: The body of a migrant woman worker was found at a private school in Sector 2 here on Saturday. According to the police, Rukmani, a migrant worker, had been hit on the head and a blood-stained brick was lying at the crime scene. The needle of suspicion points towards Mukesh, also a migrant worker, who used to live with her. SHO (Urban Estate) Inspector Shamsher Singh said a hunt was launched for Mukesh. TNS

3 most-wanted criminals held in Palwal

Palwal: The police has arrested three most wanted criminals, including two with a reward of Rs 20,000 each on their head. A police spokesperson identified the accused as Sunil, Lokesh and Arjun and said they were nabbed on a tip-off on Thursday. The three are named as accused in a recent firing incident in which they attempted to kill Sanjay of Kithwari on May 21 and fled. An old rivalry between the families of Sunil and Sanjay is reported to be the cause behind the murder attempt. TNS

4 held for threatening to implicate doc in rape case

Palwal: The police has arrested four persons on charges of abducting and threatening to implicate a doctor for rape if he failed to give them Rs 2 lakh. The police said the victim, Vishnu, was called up by one of the accused and asked to come to his place to treat a patient. Vishnu was held captive in a room where two women were also present and asked to give Rs 2 lakh if he wanted to escape charges of rape. The main accused have been identified as Javed and Vinod. tns
