British Council ties up with Surajkund fair body

Tourism Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar today said India would strengthen relations with the United Kingdom and promote tourism by signing an agreement in the field of tourism and craft.
He was interacting with mediapersons after a memorandum of understanding for three years was signed by the Surajkund Mela Authority and British Council.
Describing the tie-up as another milestone, he said the fair, which would be held in Faridabad from February 1 to 16, would gain more popularity globally.
He said the British Council would organise programmes such as training of artisans, development of business models for artisans and display of woman craft workers.
Vijai Vardhan, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, and Vice-Chairman, Surajkund Mela Authority, said the British Council would help four craftsmen from the UK to participate in the fair each year.
British Council’s North India Regional Director Tom Birtwistle said it would give craftsmen an opportunity to showcase their talent on the international stage.
