Budget Session Sidelights
Concerns over law & order
Congress MLAs Raghuvir Singh Kadian and Kuldeep Vats raised concerns over deteriorating law and order in the state. Kadian criticised the government, stating that financers were receiving extortion calls and that Dighal village had been barricaded under the guise of security. “Either the government should bring gangsters from Dubai and Canada or ensure security for financers,” Kadian said. Vats supported his claims.
Protestors face police action
A Congress MLA raised the use of lathicharge and water cannons against National Health Mission (NHM) employees protesting near the Chief Minister’s residence. The legislator demanded action against officials responsible for allegedly manhandling women protesters in the absence of women police personnel.
Court ruling sparks debate
Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal questioned the government over a court ruling related to an SC candidate’s judicial examination. The candidate’s caste certificate lacked a required date format, leading to the cancellation of her candidature. The court ruled in her favour, allowing her to appear for the exam and imposing a penalty on the Commission. Bhukkal stated that the ruling raises concerns over the Commission’s functioning.
