Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) on Tuesday held a protest at the Ghamroj toll plaza and raised slogans against the builder for grabbing a farmer’s land.
Rattan Man, state president of the union, said the state government should be ready for a fight if atrocities were again committed against the farmers.
Subsequently, a large number of police force reached the toll plaza. After talks, the farmers reached the deputy commissioner’s office with a memorandum and raised slogans there too. SDM Sonu Bhatt took the memorandum from the farmers as the DC was in Chandigarh. Bhatt assured the farmers that no injustice would be done to them.
In the memorandum addressed to the CM, union leader Rattan Man said a builder, Yashdeep, was making a malicious attempt to usurp the land of a farmer, Sushil Kumar, who is a resident of Ghamroj village.
He said the victim had lodged a report against the said builder and the tehsil employees in February 2023, but the police did not take action on his complaint.
Instead in connivance with the builder, an FIR was lodged against the farmer. The victim had collaborated with the builder for 15 acres of land in 2018, but the said builder did not work according to the rules set during the collaboration, due to which the agreement ended in 2021.
“Now the victim is being harassed mentally and physically by the builder. The farmer has the ownership of the land, but the builder is adopting all kinds of tactics to grab the land. All FIRs lodged by the builder against the victim farmer should be cancelled with immediate effect. If the administration does not cancel these within 10 days, the Bharatiya Kisan Union will launch a massive agitation,” said Man.
