Campaign on ‘Elimination of gender-based violence’
The Women’s Cell of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Hisar, conducted an awareness campaign on the ‘Elimination of Gender-Based Violence’ as part of the UGC’s initiative to combat violence against women and raise awareness about their rights and entitlements. The campaign commenced on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25) and shall end on Human Rights Day (December 10). The cell organised poster-making and slogan writing competitions for the students and scholars of the university teaching departments (UTDs) on Monday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Narsi Ram Bishnoi conveyed his best wishes to the Women’s Cell for organising the event and said that such campaigns went a long way in achieving gender equality by sensitising students about the culture of inclusion and diversity, which was an important prerequisite to respond to violence of all kinds.
Judges for the event were Prof Himani Sharma, Director of Cultural Affairs; Dr Geetu Dhavan, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi; and Dr Sakshi Jain, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Foreign Languages.
Prof Deepa Mangala, Chairperson, Women’s Cell, said the United Nations adopted gender equity as a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Working in this direction, the cell organised these activities. She said Kanika from the Department of Bio-Technology, Palak, and Aarti from Integrated BCom-MCom secured the first, second, and third positions, respectively, in the poster-making competition. Priyanka, a research scholar from HSB, and Manisha from HSB stood first and second, respectively, in the slogan writing competition. Dr Taruna Gera and Dr Sunita coordinated the programme.
