Campus notes: Fit India week celebration ends
The seven-day Fit India Week at Guru Nanak Girls College concluded with enthusiasm and active participation from students. The programme, coordinated by Dr Meenakshi, consisted of a series of activities with the objective of promoting physical fitness and holistic well-being among youth. Students were taught yoga and meditation. Through indigenous games such as kho-kho and other sports, including volleyball, fencing, table tennis, chess, carrom, and races, they were taught sportsmanship and the spirit of participating in sports. An essay writing competition on the topic ‘Importance of Physical Fitness’ was conducted to reinforce the significance of fitness. The finale took place with a PowerPoint presentation and speech competition organised by the college’s Entrepreneurial Cell on ‘Startup Opportunities in the Health and Fitness Sector.’ In the speech competition, Harshita secured the first position, followed by Aarjoo and Mansha, while in the PPT competition, Jasika, Harshika, and Simranjeet Kaur clinched the top three positions, respectively. Dr Varinder Gandhi, Director of the college, awarded certificates to the winners and emphasised the importance of integrating yoga for a healthy lifestyle. Principal Dr Narendra Pal Kaur urged students to download the Fit India app and spread awareness about fitness within their communities. Faculty members, including Dr Geetu, Monika, Dr Ramanjot, Dimple, Aarti, Priyanka, Preeti, and Vandana, played a key role in the success of the event.
