Campus notes: 7-day NSS camp at karnal college

A seven-day special NSS camp organised by Dayal Singh College, Karnal, recently began in Dabri village with great enthusiasm and zeal. Based on the theme “Youth for My India”, the objective of the camp is to instil a spirit of community service, leadership and social awareness among volunteers. The day began with a havan ceremony. Principal Dr Ashima Gakhar inspired students to actively participate in social-responsibility and community-building initiatives. Alumni association president Kuljinder Singh Bhatt was the chief guest at the event. Dr Mukta Jain, Head, Commerce Department, talked about the significance of social responsibility and encouraged them to participate in the initiative with full dedication. Activities held on Day 1 included a cleanliness drive at the camp site, aimed at promoting values of hygiene and discipline. NSS volunteers cleaned the entire premises, ensuring a clean and well-organised environment. An introductory session on NSS was also conducted, where the history, objectives and impact of the National Service Scheme were discussed. Volunteers enthusiastically sang the NSS song, showcasing unity and community spirit. A total of 150 participants took part in the camp. The camp is being conducted under the guidance of NSS Programme Officers Dr Shweta Yadav, Deepak Kumar and Dr Chanchal Gupta.

Students shine in BSc 5th-sem exams

Kaithal: The students of IG College here have brought laurels to the institution by securing top positions in the recently declared BSc 5th-semester university examination results. Governing Body President Ram Bahadur Khurania said Lovleen had secured the 7th position in the university with 270/320 marks (84.3%), Preeti the 8th with 269/320 marks (84.06%), and Prerna 10th with 265/320 marks (82.8%). Expressing her delight, Principal Dr Arti Garg said the correct utilisation of time and education was the key to success. Mahila Mahavidyalaya Samiti president Jagdish Bahadur Khurania and general secretary Narendra Miglani extended their heartfelt wishes to the students and their parents.

Women in STEM seminar

Kurukshetra: The Women in STEM Forum, Kurukshetra University, recently organised a one-day seminar on “Innovating the Future: Women in STEM”, and a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of a science carnival at the faculty lounge. Dr Mamta Sachdeva, as the chief guest at the event, addressing the young women participants, said, “You are the future of innovation. The world needs your innovative ideas, your discoveries and your leadership.” Dr Sachdeva motivated the women to contribute meaningfully to the world of STEM. The keynote speaker, Neelima R Kumar, a scientist from Panjab University, Chandigarh, delivered a talk on “Women in STEM: Beekeeping a novel strategy” and said women in STEM were increasingly exploring innovative fields, and beekeeping was emerging as a novel strategy for environmental sustainability and economic empowerment. Combining biology, technology and conservation, women-led beekeeping initiatives contributed to biodiversity, climate resilience and sustainable agriculture, she added. Scientific advancements such as smart hives and AI-driven monitoring were enhancing productivity while fostering female entrepreneurship, she said. Dr Anita Bhatnagar, Professor, Department of Zoology and WIS Forum coordinator, delivered the welcome address and talked about the objectives of the forum. Deputy Director, Public Relations, Dr Jimmy Sharma said the science carnival was organised from Feb 28 to March 4. Sheetal of IIHS stood first in the declamation contest at the UG level, and Prachi of the Zoology Department was first in the PG category. Navjot and Sheetal Devi were first in slogan-writing at the PG and UG levels, respectively. Neha of the Microbiology Department, and Parsdeep of IIHS stood first in the poster-making contest.

National moot court competition

Panipat: The two-day 15th National Moot Court Competition, organised by Geeta Institute of Law in collaboration with Geeta University and Geeta Global Law School, ended recently. Speaking at the event, Justice Sandeep Mehta, Supreme Court of India, said 90 per cent legal cases were won through effective arguments, and moot court competitions helped instil this key skill among students. The 100+ Moot Court competitions being organized across the country would prove a boon for aspiring legal professionals, Mehta said. He added that, to become a good lawyer, students should prioritise providing justice to victims, not monetary gains. Lawyers were morally obligated to follow the path of truth, and prioritise the interests of society and the country, he said. The competition witnessed the participation of student teams from 35 universities and law colleges of India. Students from Trinity Institute of Professional Studies bagged the first position, winning a cash prize of Rs 31,000, and a trophy.
