Campus notes: Ancient maths in current scenario
Rewari: The second day of the training session on vedic mathematics at College of Agriculture, Bawal, witnessed a detailed discussion on the binary number system by Gajendra Pratap Singh. The programme has been organised in collaboration with Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) and Vigyan Bharati (VIBHA), Haryana. He highlighted Acharya Pingala’s contributions, an ancient Indian scholar credited with the earliest known binary numeral system in his work ‘Chandahsutra’. During the valedictory session, certificates were presented to mathematics teachers from 25 government schools in Rewari district. Principal Naresh Kaushik assured the participants and experts that all their suggestions would be considered for future training programmes at the college. He urged the participants to pass on the information that they had gathered during the sessions to the students and other faculty members of their schools for the benefit of students of the rural areas. The training was concluded by a formal vote of thanks by Sharanjeet Dhawan. She expressed her gratitude to INYAS for its support in conducting rural science education training utility programme for the students of rural areas of the Bawal region.
Lecture on skill enhancement
Jhajjar: An extension lecture on ‘Jeewan ke liye khel jeetna’ was organised by the Commerce Department of Government Post Graduate Nehru College, Jhajjar. The Head of Department, Dr Rajendra Kumar Arora, was the keynote speaker of the programme. He said in order to win in the game of life, self-confidence, skill development, determination and continuity were required. With the help of these qualities, any problem of life could be faced. He elaborately highlighted aspects such as the interview process, interview practice, personality development, communication skills, body language, self-confidence, presentation skills and employment skills in making the path of life easier. Their importance is even more in today's competitive era. He inspired the students to develop these skills.
Extension Lecture on Union Budget
Yamunanagar: The department of economics, in collaboration with the Academic Council of DAV College for Girls, organised an extension lecture on ‘Union Budget 2024-2025: Perceptions of a needonomist’. Vice-Chancellor Prof Madan Mohan Goel, the propounder of the needonomics school of thought, delivered the lecture on the topic. The event was presided over by principal Meenu Jain while Anita Moudgil, head of the department, delivered the welcome address and presented a citation highlighting Prof Goel's achievements. Despite the introduction of new tax slabs, Prof Goel emphasised that income taxpayers, who made up only 2 per cent of the population, should be recognised as a minority group on par with other minorities in India, claiming specific benefits and protections. Prof Goel also discussed the nine priorities identified by the Finance Minister for generating ample opportunities in areas such as productivity and resilience in agriculture, employment and skilling, inclusive human resource development and social justice, manufacturing and services, urban development, energy security, infrastructure, innovation, research and development and next-generation reforms. To support farmers, Prof Goel advocated for the adoption of a rainbow revolution in agriculture, which includes increasing productivity, processing agro products and boosting agro exports.
