Campus notes: Athletics meet at Markanda college

Kurukshetra: Markanda National College, Shahabad Markanda, held Deepak Chadha Memorial annual athletics meet. Subhash Kalsana, BJP leader on the occasion encouraged students to stay physically fit so that they could be contributors in national growth and development. More than a dozen events were organised in which 150 students participated. Dr Ashok Kumar, principal of the college, motivated the students to take active part in every field of life whether it was studies or sports. He mentioned the government incentives in sports and also highlighted the achievements of the sportspersons of Haryana who had done well on different platforms. Dr Bhupinder Tanwar, associate prof of physical education briefed the sports achievements of the students during the year and said that the students would bring more laurels to the college. Tusha Gill of BA first year was adjudged Best Male Athlete, while Simran of BA third year was declared the Best Female Athlete.

Student shines in wrestling

Kurukshetra: Tapasya, a second-year BA student of Indira Gandhi National College, represented Haryana in the 57-kg weight category in the women’s wrestling competition at the 38th National Games, held in Uttarakhand, recently. She has won a gold medal, bringing glory to the state and the college. Considering Tapasya’s consistent excellent performance in wrestling, she was recently honoured by the Haryana state with the ‘Haryana Bal Kumari’ award, becoming the first student of the college to receive the distinction. In his address, principal Dr Kushal Pal said, “The success of Tapasya is the result of her constant hard work and dedication. It is a proud moment not only for her family but also for the state and the college. Such achievements are the outcome of continuous hard work and high inspiration.” The president of the college management committee, Pawan Garg, said, “I am confident that Tapasya will bring glory to her college and the country on the global stage in senior-level competitions in future.”

One-day online seminar

Kaithal: The Economics department of RKSD College, Kaithal, organised a one-day online seminar on “India - challenges, opportunities, and action plan” under the aegis of the Directorate of Higher Education, Panchkula. The seminar aimed at discussing various dimensions of developed India and was attended by 260 participants from different states. The inaugural session was graced by principal Sanjay Goyal and prof Madan Mohan Goyal, former Vice-Chancellor of Starex University, as the chief guest. Professor Manmohan Krishna, department of economics, Allahabad University, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the government’s efforts to benefit every citizen through various schemes. The seminar featured 18 technical sessions, with 180 research papers presented. Eminent speakers, including prof Ritu Narang, prof Ashwini, and prof Dr Suman Kumar, shared their views on developed India. A special edition of Economy India magazine was also unveiled during the seminar. The programme was conducted by seminar coordinator Suraj Walia and co-coordinator Ritu Walia, with several faculty members and non-teaching staff contributing to its success.

Capacity building programme

Yamunanagar: A capacity building programme on ‘Learning outcomes and pedagogy’ was organised by the CBSE at St Lawrence International School. The programme was aimed at equiping educators with effective pedagogical strategies, enhance their understanding of learning outcomes and improve classroom instruction. Eminent educationists of the region appreciated the efforts of the CBSE to re-train the teachers as per NEP. Resource person Sanjay Tyagi from Kurukshetra University and Pooja Batra conducted interactive sessions on understanding and implementing learning outcomes in classrooms, effective pedagogical strategies for different subjects, assessment techniques to evaluate student learning, activity-based and experiential learning approaches. The sessions included practical demonstrations, case studies and group discussions, making the programme engaging and insightful. The programme witnessed active participation of 62 teachers from 11 schools of Yamunanagar, Ambala and Kurukshetra.
