Campus notes: Convocation at Central varsity
In the 11th convocation of the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Prof Neelima Gupta, Vice-Chancellor of Dr Harisingh Gour University, Sagar, awarded degrees to 1,426 students and gold medals to 49 students. A total of 1,381 students and researchers were awarded PhD, Bachelors and Masters degrees. Among the graduates, 570 received degrees in undergraduate courses, 811 in postgraduate courses and 49 researchers were awarded PhD degrees. Out of the 1,426 students and researchers, 779 were men and 647 were women. Mamta Yadav, Member of Haryana Public Service Commission and Nikhil Mathur from Pidilite Industries Ltd were the distinguished guests. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Neelima said the knowledge gained in the university needed to be applied in the chosen fields. She also said the knowledge gained should also be best utilised for serving society and become a responsible citizen. She also emphasised on the importance of education in shaping the future of oneself, family, society and nation. She urged the students to use their knowledge to make a significant contribution to the nation. CUH Vice-Chancellor Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, presented an overview of the university's achievements.
MDU to have girls' sports hostel: VC
Rohtak: International Women's Day was celebrated at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) under the aegis of Women''s Study Centre. Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh, chief guest, announced that s girls' sports hostel would be constructed on the campus for the benefit of girl players. He said the patriarchal mindset needed to be done away with to establish gender parity in society. Education is the catalyst for ensuring holistic development of students. He lauded Women's Study Centre for organising the programme. Resource persons - Dr Suman Bahmani (GJUST, Hisar) and Dr Seema (DLC SUPVA, Rohtak) shared their perspective on Women Empowerment and related issues. The director, Women's Study Centre, Prof Shalini Singh, delivered the welcome address. Programme coordinator Dr Shashi Rashmi expressed the vote of thanks. Research scholar Ajay conducted the stage while Sonia and Mansi provided assistance.
Annual athletics meet
Yamunanagar: Guru Nanak Girls College in collaboration with Sant Nischal Singh College of Education for Women hosted its annual athletics meet. Students of physical education presented yoga, aerobics and karate highlighting the significance of fitness and self-discipline while the students of both Guru Nanak Girls College and Sant Nischal Singh College of Education enthralled the audience with dance performances reflecting the spirit of unity and celebration. Dr Meenakshi, HoD, department of physical education presented the college sports report. The results of preliminary events are in the 800-metre race, Sonu (BA second year) secured the first position. In the 400-metre race, Shweta (BA first year) emerged victorious. In the shuttle race, Sheetal (BA first year) won first place, while Rajni (BA third year) secured the top spot in the back race. Kiranjot (BCA. first year) won the lemon race, and Ramandeep (BCom first year) secured first place in the long jump. Prerna (BA third year) excelled in multiple events, winning first place in shot put, javelin throw, discus throw, and the relay race. In the relay race, the winning team included Prerna (BA third year), Sonu (BA second year), Sushma (BA second year), and Saloni (BA second year).The award for the best athlete of the year was won by Sonu and the best sportsperson of the year was won by Mehak.
