Campus notes: Cricket tournament at GJUST
A two-day inter-college cricket competition was organised at the Maharana Pratap Stadium of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) under the Directorate of Sports. Prof. Manish Kumar, dean of the Directorate of Sports, was the chief guest for the event. He encouraged students to participate in sports alongside their academic activities, which he said contributes to positive energy and personality development. Four teams, including the University Teaching Departments (UTD) team, participated in the competition. The final match was played between DN College Hisar and UTD, with the competition highlighting the university's commitment in fostering a sports culture.
HAU signs MoU with CIRB
Hisar: Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB), under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The MoU aims to promote skill development programmes for farmers. The MoU was signed by Dr T.K. Dutta, Director of CIRB, and Dr Rajbir Garg, Director of Research at HAU, in the presence of Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. B.R. Kamboj. The VC emphasised that the university regularly conducts training programmes for skill development, particularly for SC candidates, in fields such as value-added milk products, organic farming, beekeeping and mushroom production. HAU will provide the infrastructure and experts for these training sessions, while CIRB will cover the training expenses. The Saina Nehwal Agricultural Technology Training and Teaching Institute at HAU and CIRB will jointly finalise the list of candidates and the training programmes.
Surya Namaskar campaign at college
Hisar: A yoga camp was organised at Dayanand College, Hisar, under the Har Ghar Parivar Surya Namaskar Abhiyan launched by the Haryana Yoga Commission. The camp, which began today, will run for ten days. Dr Vikramjit Singh, principal of the college, inaugurated the camp and encouraged students to adopt yoga as a lifestyle for better health. Yoga assistant Reena Kumari from the AYUSH department and teacher Manisha from the Physical Education department guided the students through the 12 postures of Surya Namaskar.. Principal Dr Lakhbir Kaur encouraged the students to talk openly about health-related problems.
Awareness programme on HIV
Hisar: The Red Ribbon and Red Cross Society organised an awareness programme at Government College for Women, Hisar, in observance of National Youth Day. The programme aimed to raise awareness among youth about HIV and its prevention. Principal Dr Satbir Singh Sanga inaugurated the rally, which was followed by a detailed session by Dr Anita Taneja, coordinator of the Red Ribbon Red Cross Club. She educated the students about the symptoms, prevention, and treatment of HIV, encouraging them to be more informed and sensitive towards the issue.
Panipat students excel in karate
Panipat: Two students from SD PG College, Panipat, earned three medals at the All India Inter-University Karate Championship held at MD University, Rohtak. Jatin Saini won a silver medal in the 67 kg weight category and a bronze medal in the team fight, while Dipanshu Rohila secured a silver medal in the 84 kg weight category. Dinesh Goyal, president of the college management, along with Dr Anupam Arora, principal of SD PG College and other faculty members, welcomed the winning athletes back to the college campus.
