Campus notes: Dermatologist honoured

Ambala: Dr Sanjeev Gupta, head of the department of dermatology at MM Medical College, Mullana, Ambala, was honoured with Dr BM Ambady Oration, during annual conference of dermatologists – DERMACON 2025, held in Jaipur. Dr Gupta highlighted the rising cost of treatment, attributing it primarily to heavy reliance on western medical technology and treatment. He pointed out that these expensive treatment modalities remain out of reach for the underprivileged population in India. He emphasised the urgent need to develop indigenous medical technologies, create cost-effective, sustainable and efficient medical equipment and reduce dependency on western countries. He said achieving self-reliance in medical science was crucial and India must take its affordable and effective healthcare innovations from the local to global stage. Six books authored by Dr Gupta were also released during the conference.

Advanced veterinary programme

Hisar: The department of veterinary microbiology, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), hosted the 37th ICAR-Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) programme on “Emerging Trends in Serological, Molecular and Cell-Based Diagnostics in Veterinary Sciences”. The 21-day programme witnessed 25 veterinary scientists and teachers from eight states, focusing on cutting-edge diagnostic techniques for animal diseases. Dr Vikram Saini, Associate Professor, AIIMS, New Delhi, delivered a session on “Zoonotic Diseases in India: Challenges and Opportunities for Diagnosis and Biosafety in a One Health Framework,” emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration. Dr Rajesh, Head, Department of Veterinary Microbiology, LUVAS, highlighted the importance of ICAR-funded faculty training programmes in strengthening India’s disease diagnostics framework. He noted that the skills imparted will empower participants to enhance their institutions’ capacities, ultimately boosting livestock productivity and economic growth. This ICAR-funded initiative aligns with India’s vision of boosting livestock productivity and farm incomes through scientific advancements in veterinary diagnostics.

Annual athletics meet

Yamunanagar: Seth Jai Parkash Polytechnic, Damla, organised 34th annual athletics meet. The students from several departments showcased their discipline and coordination during the march past. The applied science department was adjudged the winner of the Best March Past Award. The sports meet then proceeded with an array of thrilling athletic events, igniting a spirit of competition and camaraderie among the participants. The first day featured several high-energy track and field events, including 1,500-metre race and 200-metre sprint, where participants displayed their speed and agility in an intense battle to the finish line. The long jump event saw remarkable performances as athletes exhibited their strength and precision to achieve impressive leaps. Another highlight of the day was the shot put competition, where competitors demonstrated their power and technique in the field of strength-based sports. The second day witnessed a spectacular showcase of athleticism, beginning with 5,000 metre race. Naazim of electrical engineering is declared best boy athlete and Pooja of electrical engineering is declared best girl athlete.

NSS district camp at DAV School

Ambala: SD Vidya School clinched the coveted All-Rounder Trophy at the NSS district camp which was held at Murlidhar DAV School, Ambala City. The camp witnessed spirited participation from 30 schools, totaling 200 NSS volunteers. Angel won first prize in solo dance competition, while Diwanshi Handa secured the first prize in poetry recitation. Tamanna won first place in the declamation competition and third place in the debate competition, while Khushi Garg was honoured with an award for the best compering. The school’s NSS officer, Priyanka Malik, was awarded the best programme officer for overall administration and finance. Diwanshi, Tamanna and Bhavini were recognised as the best NSS volunteers. In the poster-making competition, all three groups from the school secured first, second and third positions, showcasing their artistic excellence. Jeevanjot Kaur, was awarded a certificate for her commendable services. The school was also honoured with an overall trophy.
