Campus notes: Ladwa college holds lecture
Kurukshetra: A comprehensive lecture covering drug abuse, cyber security, road safety and career counselling was organised at Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa, Kurukshetra. The event was conducted under the joint auspices of the Career Guidance Placement Cell, Legal Literacy Cell, Red Ribbon Club and Road Safety Cell. The keynote speaker at the event was Amit Yashvardhan, IPS, ADC to Governor and SP Lokayukta Haryana. Yashvardhan underscored the vital role of youth in societal development and stressed the importance of awareness in combating drug use. He said drug abuse was a significant concern among the youth and advised students to be cautious of their associations and to maintain open communication with their parents. He also urged parents and teachers to stay vigilant. On the subject of cybercrime, Yashvardhan pointed out the increasing number of online fraud cases and provided key tips to avoid such scams. Addressing the matter of road safety, he emphasised the importance of caution while driving, noting that accidents could have far-reaching consequences for families. In his deliberations on career counselling, Yashvardhan encouraged students to identify their strengths and set clear goals. He said student life was an opportune time to seek guidance from teachers and parents to achieve success.
Farmers meet at M’garh varsity
Mahendragarh: A special event was organised at the Central University of Haryana (CUH), wherein around 50 farmers discussed the latest developments and challenges in the agriculture sector. Vice-chancellor Tankeswar Kumar inaugurated the event. Prof NK Singh of NIPB, New Delhi, was the chief guest at the event; he shared his experiences in developing rice varieties with biotechnological tools and encouraged farmers to form cooperative groups and engage in market-orientated farming. He also shared information about several government initiatives that had been launched to support farmers and urged them to understand and use these efficiently to augment their income. Ramesh Kumar, Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mahendragarh, shared his experience of working in the field and establishing linkages between various farmer groups. Many progressive farmers shared their experiences of starting agribusinesses on the occasion. The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony.
Induction event at Y’nagar college
Yamunanagar: Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamunanagar, organised an induction programme for newcomers of the Department of Physical Education and the Faculty of Sciences. Principal Harinder Singh Kang emphasised the importance of a holistic education that included both academic and extracurricular activities. Bodhraj, Dean of the Department of Physical Education, welcomed the students and assured them of the department’s support in achieving their goals. Ranjit Singh, Head of the Department of Physical Education, highlighted the activities planned for the new academic session. Sanjay Vij spoke about the various opportunities that would be available to students and encouraged them to participate in them actively.
550 seats vacant at ITI-Karnal
Karnal: The Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Karnal, has declared nearly 550 seats across various trades vacant after the completion of the online seat allotment process. The institute made this announcement on Thursday and has begun preparing to fill up these seats through offline counselling, scheduled to commence on August 12. Principal Rakesh Bhatia said the institute offered nearly 1,400 seats in different trades. Out of these, around 850 seats were filled through the online counselling process. The remaining were marked as vacant and were now listed on the department’s website. “ITI-Karnal offers 33 trades, across more than 85 units. The majority of students have opted for trades such as electrician, computer, mechanical, and others, which are in high demand,” said Principal Bhatia. The principal said the institute was equipped with advanced machines, featuring the latest technology, designed to hone the skills of students and prepare them for the workforce. To facilitate the filling of vacant seats, the institute will conduct on-the-spot admission rounds and rank cards will be generated for admission. Bhatia praised the efforts of the Apprenticeship Cell at ITI-Karnal, highlighting the success of four job fairs organised by the institute in July, where many aspiring trainees were selected on the spot. Notably, Indigo Airlines participated in one of these job fairs and engaged 11 trainees, underscoring the institute’s strong industry connections and commitment to student employability.
