Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU)’s Haryana study centre, Sir Chhotu Ram Research Peeth, under the joint supervision of History, Archaeology and Public Administration departments, recently organised a Sir Chhotu Ram Memorial National Seminar on “Recent Trends in Haryana Rural and Agri Life” at the IHTM Auditorium. Indian Historical Research Council President and educationist Raghuvendra Tanwar said Sir Chhotu Ram’s impact was important not only in a historical context, but also in a contemporary context. He appreciated Sir Chhotu Ram’s contribution and the importance of his approach to farmers, workers, agriculture reform, social service and education. JS Dhankhar delivered a welcome speech and Haryana study centre Director SS Chahar highlighted the theme of the seminar. He discussed the life and thoughts of Chhotu Ram, aligning the purpose of the seminar.

Maths, stats International conference

Rewari: A two-day international conference on “Recent trends and innovations in mathematics, statistics and scientific computing” was recently organised by the Mathematics and Computer Science departments and the Indian Association of Reliability and Statistics at Indira Gandhi University here. Around 200 participants presented their research papers, and 45 expert talks were organised in various technical sessions at the event. SC Malik, President, IARS, was the chief guest at the event, and Sat Gupta from the University of North Carolina, USA, was the guest of honour. BK Das from Italy, as the keynote speaker at the event, explained the application of mathematics in various subjects such as science and management. Convenor Dr Mahavir Barak welcomed the guests and Manju Pruthi detailed the objectives of the conference. Savita Sheoran described various activities conducted by the Rao Mohar Singh Chair established at the university. Satender Bal Gupta, Chairperson, Department of CSE, delivered the vote of thanks.

Distance education PG courses

Mahendragarh: The Central University of Haryana (CUH) has offered three newly approved programmes — Master of Arts (MA) in Journalism and Mass Communication, MA (Hindi) and Masters in Commerce through the distance mode. Vice-Chancellor Tankeshwar Kumar said these courses would pave way for new avenues of learning through distance education, offering students more flexibility and opportunities for higher education in southern Haryana, and the surrounding districts of Rajasthan. All programmes will be offered on a semester basis. Singara Singh, Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education, said all study materials for these programmes had been prepared by the CUH and renowned professors of other prestigious institutes. He said the admission schedule had been released, and the last date to enrol in the courses was March 31.

Family health cards distributed

Panipat: NC Medical College and Hospital, Israna, has taken a leap forward to give impetus to the ongoing Family Adoption Programme, under the National Medical Commission. A team of its Community Medicine Department, headed by Dr Kamaljit Singh, informed beneficiaries about benefits of family health cards, and answered their queries. The team distributed cards to the adopted families of Bandh village. During the event, Bandh Sarpanch Pooja Rani exhorted recipients to get quality treatment from specialist doctors at the NC hospital at subsidised rates. “The beneficiaries of the adopted families would be given priority while availing medical care at our college and hospital,” a spokesperson of the college said.
