Campus notes: People Made aware of road safety rules

Karnal: Dyal Singh College, Karnal, made a significant contribution to the National Road Safety Campaign by organising a comprehensive public outreach programme aimed at educating students and the local community on the importance of safe driving practices, pedestrian safety, and the consequences of violating traffic laws. NSS volunteers participated enthusiastically in the programme. Dr Rajesh Arora, Staff Secretary of Dyal Singh College, flagged off the rally. He said road safety was a vital concern, and through this programme, the students and the local community would be educated on how to prevent accidents and save lives. The event also included a pledge by all participants to follow road safety guidelines and encourage. The volunteers along with the NSS Programme Officers Dr Shweta Yadav, Deepak Kumar and Dr Chanchal Gupta joined the local traffic police at the Ambedkar Chowk, Karnal and educated the people on the significance of adhering to traffic rules, the proper use of seat belts and helmets, the dangers of distracted driving, and the critical role of pedestrians in maintaining road safety.

Poster, slogan-writing contest held

Yamunanagar: The anti-ragging cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamunanagar, organised a poster and slogan writing competition to celebrate the Anti Ragging Week. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a ragging-free environment within educational institutions. Principal Dr Harinder Singh Kang encouraged students to actively participate in such initiatives to foster a culture of mutual respect and harmony. The event was convened by Dr Baljeet Singh, Dr Neena Puri,Dr Anurag and Prof Manisha who collectively highlighted the importance of students taking a stand against ragging. The competition was judged by Dr Rameshwar Dass and Dr Kiran Pal Singh Virk who commended the creativity and dedication of the participants. After careful deliberation, Tamanna of BA (II) was awarded the first prize, Naveen of MA Social Work (Final Year) secured the second prize, Saloni of BA (II) took the third prize, and Arshdeep of BA (I) received a consolation prize. The event was graced by the presence of Dr Pratima Sharma, Dr Catherine Masih, Dr Tilak Raj, Dr Rajinder Singh Vohra, Dr Babita, Prof Anika, Prof Shilpi and other faculty members. Sardar Randeep Singh Jauhar, president of the governing body and managing committee, expressed his appreciation for the initiative taken by the college’s anti-ragging cell.

Creative writing competition held

Jhajjar: A creative writing competition was organised by the Department at Government Post Graduate Nehru College, Jhajjar. In this competition, BA (I) student Pari got first place, BSc (III) student Megha got second place and BA (II) student Sachin and BA (III) student Komal got the third place jointly. Principal Dr Dalbir Singh gave certificates to the winning students. The main topics of the competition were music and mental health, music and nature, music and life and the changing form of music in Hindi films. The competition was judged by Dr Amit Bhardwaj, Dr Tamsa and Shiv Shankar. Music lecturer Dr Tina Chawla and tabla player Ashwini Kumar were also present on this occasion.

Last date for filling sports varsity forms

Sonepat: The last date to apply for the BSc (Sports Science), MPES and PG diploma programmes at the Sports University of Haryana is 26 August, 2024. The Sports University of Haryana, Rai, Sonepat is a UGC-recognised and AIU-affiliated university. The university has concluded its admission process for various academic programmes with a record number of applications. However, on the request of applicants of B Sc (Sports Science), MPES and PG diploma programmes, the admission portal has been opened again up to 26 August 2024. The interested applicants may apply through the official website of the university, www.suoh.ac.in to be a part of the first sports university of the state.
