Campus Notes: Students showcase talent at NSS event
Hisar: NSS volunteers from Dayanand College, Hisar, participated in a university-level seven-day NSS camp held at Chhajuram Memorial Jat College in Hisar from January 12 to 18. A total of 200 volunteers from 20 colleges participated in the event organised by the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. The volunteers from Dayanand college showcased exceptional talent, winning several awards. Keshav Raj became the best actor and secured third place in the 100-metre race, while Ritika secured first place in the cultural programme and mehndi competition. Ashish Singhmar won first place for his poetry, and Anuj came second in the speech competition. Other awards included best management and mehndi, poster-making awards for Chanchal, Garv, and Naveen. Programme officer Dr Chhabi Mangala emphasised that such camps built volunteers' personalities and prepared them for future challenges. Bhiwani women's football team wins
Bhiwani: Chaudhary Bansi Lal University's women football team won the gold medal at the All India Inter-University Women's Football Championship. Vice-Chancellor, Prof Deepti Dharmani said the championship was held from January 8 to January 18 at GNA, Phagwara. The university family, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar Dr Ritu Singh, Dean of Student Welfare Dr Suresh Malik, and all deans, congratulated the team.The Vice-Chancellor stated that achieving such a significant win through excellent performance was a major accomplishment for the university. She expressed hope that the victory would inspire the players with new enthusiasm, encouraging them to showcase their talent and win even more medals in future, further enhancing the university's reputation.
GJUST girls excel in Karate
Hisar: Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, celebrated the achievements of its players at the All-India University Karate (Women) Championship held at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. In the kumite event, Anchal won a silver medal in the 50-kg category and Kashish secured silver in the 55-kg category. The university team also won a bronze medal in the kata competition. The victorious players met Vice-Chancellor Prof Narsiram Bishnoi, who praised their achievements and encouraged them to stay disciplined and work hard for future success at the international level.
Bose's birth anniv celebrated
Bhiwani: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary was celebrated with enthusiasm at Government Senior Secondary School in Kharkadi Jhawari village in Bhiwani district. School staff paid floral tributes to Neta Ji. The students were informed about Netaji's ideals. Hindi professor Principal Raj Singh Ghanghas highlighted Bose's pivotal role in India's Independence movement. He emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters, urging students to draw inspiration from their struggles and work for the nation's progress.
GJUST ranked 33 in Times rankings
Hisar: Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Hisar, has achieved recognition by securing 33rd rank in India and 801-1000 globally in the 'physical sciences' category of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025. The university improved its rank by 200 positions compared to 2024 and scaled up its score from 24.1 to 25.2. Vice-Chancellor Prof Narsiram Bishnoi congratulated the university community, highlighting GJUST as the only state government university from Haryana to secure a place in the global ranking. The rankings were based on five indicators: Teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook. The university's scopus h-index stands at 130, the highest in the region.
