Campus notes: Training in mushroom production

Hisar: A three-day training programme on mushroom production technology was conducted by the Saina Nehwal Agricultural Technology, Training and Education Institute of Chaudhary Charan Singh, Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar. Forty-five trainees from various districts of Haryana participated in this programme. Co-director of the institute Ashok Kumar Godara informed that mushroom production was a business which landless, educated or uneducated young men and women could adopt as self-employment at minimal cost and increase their income. Satish Kumar Mehta, the organiser of the training, said that most of the farmers in Haryana cultivated white button mushroom in the winter season and after that the farm is closed, but after button mushroom, dhingri and milky mushrooms could also be produced. Vikas Kamboj, associate scientist of the vegetable department, spoke on mushroom production in air-conditioned rooms and the features of spent mushroom compost. DK Sharma said that many types of products from mushrooms were used in biscuits, papad, kadhi, cake, pizza, sandwich etc.

NSS camp held at Bhiwani school

Bhiwani: A seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) camp was organised at Halwasiya Vidya Vihar in Bhiwani during the winter vacation. The first day of the camp began with a cleanliness campaign activity in which volunteers participated enthusiastically. School administrator Dr Shamsher Singh Ahlawat and Principal Vimlesh Arya praised the work done by the volunteers on the school premises and encouraged them to always maintain that spirit of service within themselves.

Quiz competition on road safety

Hisar: The Hisar Range Police organised a four-level divisional-level quiz competition on road safety at the auditorium of Guru Gorakhnath Ji Government College situated on the Rajgarh road in the district. In the first-level quiz competition organized for students of Classes III-V, teams of the CDS International School, Hansi, Army Public School, Hisar and Bajrang Model School, Fatehabad, secured the first, second and third positions, respectively. In the fourth-level quiz competition, organised for the students of higher education, the team of Government Polytechnic, Hisar, came first, the team of National College of Education, Sirsa, came second and the team of IG College, Tohana, came third. In the third-level quiz competition organised for students of Classes IX to XII, the team of AVM School, Hisar, stood first, the team of Sutlej Public School, Sirsa, stood second and the team of Sheetal High School, Dabwali, stood third. In the second-level quiz competition organised for Classes VI to VIII, children of Mother Pride Convent School, Hisar, secured the first position, the children of Government Aarohi Senior Secondary School, Sirsa, got the second position and children of Kali Devi Vidya Mandir, Hansi, got the third position. Additional Director General of Police, Hisar Range, M Ravi Kiran congratulated all teams participating in the competition adding that the primary objective was to make the young generation aware of road safety rules. All teams that came first in this competition will get an opportunity to participate in the state-level competition. He called upon all participants to make people aware of road safety rules.
