Sonepat: A voter awareness programme was organised at Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative of the Election Commission. Inaugurating the programme at the Department of Education, Vice-Chancellor Prof Sudesh said, “Every vote is important in a democracy and all eligible voters must exercise their franchise.” The Vice-Chancellor exhorted all students to cast their vote. Faculty members and students were also administered a pledged to exercise their right to vote on the occasion. Officiating Registrar Prof Shweta Singh, Head of Physical Education Department Dr Suman Dalal and other faculty members and university officials were also present on the occasion.

Science meet at Dyal Singh College

Karnal: Dyal Singh College, Karnal, organised a science meet as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations. Students of Classes XI and XII from 16 government schools across the district participated in the event. Chief guest, Dr Anita Joon, Principal, Government College for Girls, Dadupur Roran, Karnal, exhorted the students to work hard for building a secure future for themselves. The college Principal, Dr Ashima Gakhar, highlighted the importance of science in today’s world. A skit titled, Depression: Struggle Behind Silence, was also performed on the occasion.

Talent show at Indira Gandhi college

Kurukshetra: A two-day talent show competition started at Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa, on Friday. Poetical symposium, speech, painting and quiz competitions were organised on the first day of the programme.

Harsh (BSc first year), Mehak (BA third year) and Sakshi (BA first year) got first, second and third positions, respectively, in the Poetical symposium competition. Mehak also won the speech contest, while Rajni (BSc second year) and Balwan (BA second year) stood second and third, respectively. Gunjan (BA third year) secured the first position in the painting competition, while third year students Alisha Bharti and Shraddha secured the second and third spots, respectively. In the quiz competition, Shobhit (BCom second year), Aryan Sharma (BSc first year) and Himanshi Sharma (BA third year) secured the first, second and third positions, respectively.

In his inaugural speech, College Principal Dr Kushal Pal motivated all students to participate in such competitions, saying it led to their overall development. “Such programmes are organised in the college with an aim to provide students an opportunity to explore their talent and enhance their skills. A student who recognises his talent during his student life and works on it leads the society and achieves higher positions in future,” the principal said.
