A breast cancer awareness camp was organised at Gau Karan Tirth Dera Baba Laxman Puri recently.

The camp was inaugurated by Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kapil Puri, who is also deputy acharya of Juna Akhara and Peethadheeshwar of Gaukarna Peeth.

During the event, several cancer survivors shared their personal journeys, recounting the overwhelming emotions, grueling treatments and ultimately their victory over the disease.

Rajesh Jain, MD of LPS Bossard, who himself overcame cancer, said, “Only those who have personally battled a disease like cancer can truly empathise with the pain of others. Having gone through the trauma, we often wish no one else should suffer the same fate.”

Dr Arjun Narula highlighted that breast cancer is increasingly affecting not only older women but also young girls. He said timely screening and treatment could significantly reduce the risks. Speaking about the rising cases of breast cancer, he said changing lifestyles, unhealthy diets, lack of exercise, alcohol consumption and delayed motherhood were contributing to the growing prevalence of the disease.

Dr Tashi Narula added that women should make it a priority to regularly monitor their health. Discussing the free mammography camp organised for breast cancer screening, she noted that under the Dr Anita Narula Charitable Trust, free checkups were being conducted regularly for economically disadvantaged women.
