Candidates take rest, meet close aides to analyse voters’ turnout
After a hectic campaigning for over two weeks and a day after polling for the Panipat Municipal Corporation (MC), candidates in the fray for the mayoral and councillors’ posts spent time with their family. The candidates and their close aides were also busy analysing the data of votes cast booth wise in 26 wards.
The polling for the mayoral and councillors posts of the Panipat MC was conducted at 365 polling booths here. The counting will take place on March 12.
With a slight increase in the final voter turnout recorded 52.6 per cent. A total 2.16 lakh voters out of total 4.11 lakh voters exercised their franchise on Sunday to elect their mayor and councillors for the Panipat MC on Sunday.
Some candidates called the meeting of their supporters and assessed the votes cast to them per booth and even the intelligence agencies were also busy preparing reports about the MC polls on Monday.
BJP’s mayoral candidate Komal Saini, thanked her supporters for making tireless efforts for a BJP win. She spent her day at home with the family and also paid obeisance at a temple.
Dinesh Saini, Komal Saini’s husband, said after a long campaign, Komal was not feeling well so after taking medicine she took a rest.
“Although campaigning schedule was very hectic, people in the city gave their full support and blessings to me and with their support and that of senior leaders, the BJP is going to form a triple engine government in the city,” said Komal.
Meanwhile, Congress’ mayoral candidate Savita Garg spent her time with the family and also joined the meeting with party leaders to analyse the elections.
“The schedule was very hectic during the campaigning but it was also a learning period for me. During the campaigning I got the chance to know the actual condition of the city and know the people and learnt about politics,” Garg said.
“All will be good on March 12. The residents have really extended their full support to me,” Garg said.
Dushyant Bhatt, BJP’s district president, took reports from all wards about the polling and analysed the voters’ turnout. Bhatt said the BJP was going to win all 26 councillors’ seats and the mayoral seat with a huge number of votes.
“Some organisational works were pending due to the MC elections and on Monday I completed these,” the district president said.
