Gurugram, February 17

In what comes as a major blow to Congress in Ahirwal, senior leader and former minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav has rendered his resignation from state election committee and political affairs committee.

Will not compete to prove my worth

I have served the party with dedication and will continue to do so. I will, however, not be contesting elections hereafter. After having a successful political stint I cannot be expected to apply and compete with other party members to prove my worth. Ajay Yadav, Chairman AICC OBC Congress

Yadav issued no statement regarding the decision as it came to light just before the party meeting about Lok Sabha elections in Delhi today. Yadav had been miffed with the party’s leadership for alleged indifference to his seniority and declared that he would not contest any election. He took a strong umbrage to the fact that he had been asked to apply for a ticket from Gurugram for the ensuing elections.

“I have served the party with dedication and will continue to do so. I will, however, not be contesting elections now. After having a successful political stint I cannot be expected to apply and compete with other party members to prove my worth. Over 50 per cent of the voters in this area belong to the OBC category, yet not including the party’s OBC chief sends out a clear message,” said Yadav.

It may be noted that Yadav was elected MLA from Rewari six times after which his son succeeded him. Yadav had contested the Lok Sabha elections against Rao Inderjeet Singh in 2019 and had lost. He was all prepared to put up a fight this year but, according to sources, was left miffed after a Hooda supporter Rao Dan Singh applied to contest from Gurugram.
