Captain Meenu Beniwal vows to boost Haryana’s Olympic glory
Just a day after becoming the president of the Haryana Olympic Association, Jasvinder Singh, also known as Capt Meenu Beniwal, met Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini at Sant Kutir, the CM residence, on Monday. During their meeting, he promised to enhance Haryana’s reputation in sports, ensuring that athletes got the best opportunities. He even shared a picture of the meeting on social media.
Captain Beniwal assured the CM that he would work with fairness and transparency under the motto “One Haryana, one spirit.” His goal is to refine the skills of players and provide them with all necessary support. He stated that there would be no discrimination in any sport, new coaches might be appointed and preparations for selecting athletes for the 2036 Olympics would begin soon.
Meanwhile, In a Facebook post, Beniwal shared that he thanked the CM for his cooperation and blessings after being unanimously elected to the post. During the meeting, Saini congratulated Beniwal and encouraged him to uphold Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for sports in India. Beniwal expressed his appreciation for the CM’s support and guidance, emphasising his commitment to strengthening Haryana’s presence in the sporting world.
Captain Meenu Beniwal joined the BJP about a year ago during a Lok Sabha election rally in Sirsa, where he was welcomed by CM Nayab Singh and former CM Manohar Lal Khattar. Since then, he has been active in BJP’s political campaigns, playing a key role in elections like Adampur and Ellenabad bypolls and even Rajasthan Assembly elections.
Before joining the BJP, Beniwal had long been associated with Ajay Chautala since 1990. When the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) split from the INLD, he sided with Ajay Chautala and played a crucial role in forming the JJP-BJP alliance. He maintained political connections with both Ajay Chautala from the JJP and Manohar Lal Khattar from the BJP.
Hailing from Tarkanwale village in Sirsa, Captain Meenu Beniwal previously worked on mining and liquor contracts in Gurugram. Over the past seven to eight years, he transitioned into active politics, supporting the BJP in major elections. In the Ellenabad byelection, he played a role in securing the BJP ticket for Gobind Kanda, although the BJP faced defeat.
Despite setbacks, Beniwal has remained a significant political figure. His leadership in sports and commitment to fair play will now be tested as he leads the Haryana’s Olympic Association, aiming to bring new opportunities and success to athletes across the state.
