CBI registers FIR in Manisha murder case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR in the Manisha murder case.
Earlier, the Haryana Police had registered an FIR dated August 12, under Section 127 (6) (wrongful confinement) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Loharu police station in Bhiwani district, based on a complaint by Manisha’s father, Sanjay Kumar.
In his complaint, Kumar said that on August 11, Manisha, 18, went to teach at Kids Play School, Singhani, and did not return. She had left the house at 8 am. He said the family looked for Manisha everywhere, but couldn’t find her.
On August 13, her body was found in a field near the canal of the village of Singhani, bearing grievous injuries on the neck.
Consequently, Section 103(1) (murder) of the BNS was added.
ON September 4, the investigation of the case was transferred to the CBI. On September 5, the Delhi unit of the CBI registered a case.
The investigation of the case is entrusted to Inspector Vivek Kumar of the CBI, New Delhi.
On September 25, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Sumita Misra, accorded consent for the transfer of the case.
Before that, CM Nayab Saini had announced a CBI investigation on August 20, following a demand from the family.
The post-mortem on Manisha’s body was done thrice, as demanded by the family. The first post-mortem was done in Bhiwani, followed by another at PGI Rohtak, and the third at AIIMS, Delhi.
She was cremated on August 21.
The issue was raised in the Monsoon Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. Former CM Bhupinder Hooda said people were worried about the safety of their sisters and daughters, because in this crime, the brutality of the culprits and the failure of the law and order were clearly visible. Despite receiving the complaint, the police were negligent and did not try to find Manisha, he added.
