The two-day 13th Athletics Meet organised by the Office of the Dean, Student Welfare at Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) kicked off on Friday on the university sports ground. The event was attended by the Vice Chancellors of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar, and CDLU, Sirsa, Professor Narsi Ram Bishnoi as the chief guest.

Addressing the participants, Professor Bishnoi highlighted the extensive sports facilities provided by colleges and universities in Haryana, which had contributed to the state's dominance in national and international sports. He stated that sports offered vast career opportunities, as both Central and state governments were offering high ranking jobs and cash rewards to outstanding athletes. Encouraging the participants, he advised them to compete with the spirit of sportsmanship rather than focusing solely on winning or losing.

He further stated that after a year of hard work, the university provided students with a platform to showcase their talent. Events like these had played a major role in Haryana's success in bringing home medals. He stressed the importance of sports in life, saying that physical fitness contributed to a sharp mind, making athletes more alert and active compared to others. He concluded by stating that sports enhance both mental and physical well-being, and he extended his best wishes to all participants for their future endeavours.

Before the competitions began, all athletes took an oath to uphold the rules and spirit of sportsmanship. Professor Ishwar Malik, the event’s organising secretary, expressed gratitude to the guests, while Professor Rajkumar, Dean of Student Welfare, welcomed them. The event was smoothly conducted under the guidance of Dr Timsy, who handled the stage proceedings.
